A Community-Centric Design
The new play space at the Trafalgar branch of JCPL isn’t just a place for children to play; it’s an educational environment that reflects Indiana’s rich agricultural heritage. The protected prairie lands surrounding the library inspired the interactive elements that teach children about farming, crops, and the importance of agriculture in their daily lives. This project is a testament to how design can be used to celebrate local culture and provide meaningful learning opportunities for young minds.
Bringing Agriculture to Life
The play space features a variety of interactive components, including a garden, barn, orchard, market, kitchen and cafe. These elements are not just visually appealing—they’re also designed to engage children’s imaginations and curiosity about the world of farming. Kids can dress the part while picking fruit, planting vegetables, making honey, shopping and cooking. The interactive farm to table experience allows kids to play critical roles in our economy and community. The two-story play structure has many cozy spots for reading and offers dynamic views of the play area below.
